Hot Virginia Dip

This is great for holidays, family reunions and parties. It can be made two to three days ahead, then baked off just before your get-together. It is best served hot or warm--it doesn't taste very good chilled.

Hot Virginia Dip


1 cup pecans, chopped (you can use walnuts in a pinch)
2 tsp butter
16 oz cream cheese, softened
4 T milk
5 oz dried beef, minced (rinse first to remove some of the salt)
1 tsp garlic salt
1 cup sour cream
4 tsp onion, minced

Sauté pecans in butter.  Reserve.  Mix all ingredients thoroughly.  Place in a 1 1/2 quart baking dish, top with pecans.  Cover and chill until serving time.  Then, bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Serve hot with crackers or small bread sticks (Triscuits and whole grain tortilla chips are great with this.)
