A German Chocolate cake mix provide a dough base for these delights.
Caramel Layer Squares
14 ounce package (about 50) light caramels
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 package German Chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup chopped nuts
6 ounce package (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 13 x 9 " pan. combine in heavy saucepan, the first 2 ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until caramels are melted. Keep warm except for chocolate pieces. By hand, stir in remaining ingredients until dough holds together. Press 1/2 dough into prepared pan, reserve remaining dough for topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate pieces over baked crust, spread caramel mixture over all.
Crumble reserved dough over caramel mixture. Bake 15-20 minutes.
