LAKELAND – The Florida Conference delegation to General Conference will hold a session to listen to the voices of Florida United Methodists concerning the General Conference to be held May 10-20, 2016, in Portland, Oregon.
The Listening Session will be held as part of the Conference Table meeting at First UMC, Lakeland, 72 Lake Morton Drive, on Saturday Feb.13, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All Florida United Methodists are welcome to attend. Please click here to RSVP your attendance and, if applicable, your request to speak. An optional donation of $7, online or at the door, can be made to help cover the cost of lunch. The registration deadline for all attendees and requests to speak is Friday, Feb. 5.
Speakers will be assigned and notified of their time slot along with the guidelines, which will include a five-minute limit for each speaker. We are requesting that a copy of each speaker's presentation be submitted to the moderators of the Conference Table, Chuck Mallue and Debbie McLeod, on the day of the Listening Session. An agenda for the day listing the topics to be covered will be sent to registered attendees.
Potential topics could include The Worldwide Nature of the Church, Proposed Changes for Clergy and Bishops, Conversation about topics related to human sexuality, the Four Areas of Focus, the General Church Budget, Social Responsibility Resolutions and Restructuring Proposals.
