Music and Worship Arts workshop registration open

Registration is now open for the 60th annual church music workshop sponsored by the Florida Chapter of The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music & Worship Arts, its diamond jubilee. This year’s event, centered on the theme "Diamonds in the Rough," will be held from Sunday, June 12, through Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Florida Conference Life Enrichment Center in Fruitland Park.

The week will begin with a diamond jubilee anniversary celebration on Sunday, June 12, at Morrison UMC, Leesburg, with a hymn festival led by David Bone, executive director of the Fellowship, a 60th Anniversary Banquet and a piano concert by pianist and composer Joel Raney.

We have asked several of our Florida chapter past-presidents to be our clinicians to help us celebrate our 60th anniversary:
  • adult choral:  Bill Shortal, FUMC Orlando
  • advanced hand bells:  Robert (BJ) Jackson, FUMC, Gainesville
  • worship organist and organ:  Dan Francabandiero, Riverside Park UMC, Jacksonville (retired)

And for a second year, we will be welcoming James Wells, director of choral ministries, Brentwood UMC, Brentwood, Tenn., as our youth clinician.

Seminar topics will include choral techniques, organ repertoire, hand bell techniques, spiritual growth and reading sessions, among many others. In addition to the daily sessions led by our clinicians and seminars, participants will be engaged in daily worship services led by the Rev. Ken Cocker and visuals by Joy Toll-Chandler.
