Anyone who meets Rev. Pam Carter, Bishop Carter’s wife, knows that she is missions-driven. What some folks may not know is that she also is passionate about connecting young adults with global mission experiences.
In weaving these causes together, Carter is leading a grassroots movement to support young adult missions through a “Jewelry Re-sale for Missions” initiative that will debut at this year’s Annual Conference in June. (Pam Carter's video invitation to join the effort is at the end of this article.)
“Many of our young adults have a heart and passion for missions and dream of being involved in God’s mission in this world,” said Carter. “Often just getting started in life, they don’t have the financial resources to share in mission opportunities outside the U.S. So this is beyond the means of some of our most motivated, talented, excited and eager young missioners.”
Recalling hearing about so many young adults’ passion during her travels across the conference, Carter explained she wanted to find a way to overcome their financial obstacles to the global mission experience.
“I want us to make these young adults’ dreams a reality,” she said. “I want us to grow the mission of God into the hearts of our next generation.” And, Carter’s dream led to the “Jewelry Re-sale for Missions” fundraiser.
“It is a different kind of jewelry sale because we are asking our church members to donate unused or unwanted items from costume to precious jewelry for the sale, and even damaged jewelry is welcomed,” Carter said. “We’ll sell these items at Annual Conference, and the money we raise will fund grants to send folks on our Cuba and Haiti young adult mission trips in the coming year.”
The jewelry re-sale will be open on Wednesday and Thursday, then Friday morning of Annual Conference, which begins June 11. Click here

How to participate
- Check your jewelry box for items you are willing to donate.
- Send items to your district office (in zip-lock bags, if possible) no later than June 1.
- Purchase items at the Jewelry Re-sale for Missions while at Annual Conference.
- Call your district office if you have any questions
“Sending your items by June 1 will give us plenty of time to organize the inventory and get ready for the big re-sale,” said Carter. “And stop by the sale, find a treasure and make mission participation a reality for the next generation!”
