E. Jay Halter

The Rev. E. Jay Halter, a retired Florida Conference elder, died July 7. Halter became a deacon in the Baltimore Methodist Conference in 1955 and transferred to the Florida Conference from the Baltimore Conference in 1958. He retired in 1984. Halter served Inman Memorial Methodist Church, Jacksonville; Davenport Methodist Church; Marathon Methodist Church; Bowling Green Methodist Church; Sebastian and Fellsmere Methodist Churches; Trinity United Methodist Church, Tampa; Fruitland Park United Methodist Church and Lady Lake United Methodist Church; Grace United Methodist Church, Orlando; Callahan United Methodist Church; and Trinity United Methodist Church, Jacksonville.

James M. Brazzell

The Rev. James Brazzell, a retired Florida Conference elder, died July 2. Brazzell became a full-time local pastor in 1976 and an associate member in 1978. He retired in 1993. Brazzell served Harris Temple United Methodist Church, Tampa; Grace United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant; Mikesville Parish; Bartley Temple United Methodist Church, Gainesville; Trinity United Methodist Church, West Palm Beach; Tyer Temple United Methodist Church, Tampa; and St. Mark United Methodist Church, Lakeland.

Budd Ralph Johnson

The Rev. Budd Johnson, a Florida Conference elder, died June 8. Johnson became a deacon in 1972 and an elder in full connection in 1975. He was serving First United Methodist Church, Bonita Springs at the time of his death. Johnson also served First United Methodist Church, Lake City; First United Methodist Church, Sarasota; Howe Memorial United Methodist Church, Crescent City; Faith United Methodist Church, New Port Richey; Hanson United Methodist Church and Rocky Springs United Methodist Church; St. John’s United Methodist Church, Tampa; and Central United Methodist Church, Ft. Myers.

Robert K. Turner

The Rev. Robert Kent Turner, a retired Florida Conference elder, died April 28. Turner became a deacon in 1968 in the Virginia Conference and transferred to the Florida Conference in 1974. He retired in 1997. Turner served Crawfordville United Methodist Church; Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Melbourne; Kirkman Road United Methodist Church, Orlando; Trinity United Methodist Church, North Port; Wauchula United Methodist Church; First United Methodist Church, Bunnell; College Park United Methodist Church, Orlando; and First United Methodist Church, Bonita Springs.

H. Paul Smith

The Rev. Dr. H. Paul Smith, a retired Florida Conference elder, died April 20. Smith became a deacon in 1950 and an elder in full connection in 1951. He served churches in the Western Pennsylvania, North Indiana, Pacific Northwest and Nebraska conferences before transferring to the Florida Conference in 1977. He retired in 1989. Smith served as executive director of the Florida United Methodist Development Fund.
