Monroe Hatch

The Rev. Monroe C. Hatch, retired Florida Conference elder, died May 22, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for 37 years. He became a deacon in 1948 and an elder in 1950. He served at Waldo Methodist Church, Waldo; Chiefland Methodist Church, Chiefland; Arlington United Methodist Church, Jacksonville; First United Methodist Church, Hialeah; Melbourne United Methodist Church, Melbourne; Southside United Methodist Church, Jacksonville; and Ortega United Methodist Church, Jacksonville. He also served as district superintendent of the former Tampa District. He retired in 1985.


Richard Harrison

The Rev. Richard Harrison, retired lay pastor, died May 29, 2005. He served at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Live Oak, for seven years. He retired in 2002.


Francis Luce

The Rev. Francis L. Luce, retired Florida Conference elder, died July 4, 2005, after serving
The United Methodist Church for 36 years. He became a deacon in 1949 and an elder in 1951. He served at Florida Southern College, Lakeland, from 1952 to 1985 as chaplain, director of student life and assistant for academic affairs. He retired in 1985.


Eddie Rivers

The Rev. Eddie J. Rivers Jr., retired Florida Conference elder, died July 9, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years. He became a deacon in 1950 and an elder in 1952. He served at Arcadia Methodist Church, Arcadia; Ebenezer Methodist Church, Jacksonville; Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach; Sarah Hunt Children's Home; Florida Methodist Children's Home; St. Paul United Methodist Church and St. Joseph United Methodist Church, Tampa; Tyer Temple United Methodist Church, Tampa; Ocala Parish; St. John's United Methodist Church, Ft. Lauderdale; and Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, Daytona Beach. He retired in 1990.


Thomas Kelsey

The Rev. Thomas C. Kelsey, retired Florida Conference elder, died July 17, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for 34 years. He became a deacon in 1959 and an elder in 1961. He served at Seminole Heights Methodist Church, Tampa; Forest Hills Methodist Church, Quincy; Madison Methodist Church, Madison; Pasadena Methodist Church, St. Petersburg; Pasadena United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg; Christ United Methodist Church, Ft. Lauderdale; First United Methodist Church, Clearwater; and First United Methodist Church, Orlando. He retired in 1993.


James Harvester

The Rev. James V. Harvester, retired Florida Conference elder, died July 19, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for 39 years. He became a deacon in 1949 and an elder in 1950. He served at San Marcos Methodist Church, Tampa; Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, Tampa; Asbury United Methodist Church, Holiday; and Thonotosassa United Methodist Church, Thonotosassa. He also served as chaplain for the U.S. Army. He retired in 1992.


Richard Haley

The Rev. E. Richard Haley, retired Florida Conference elder, died Nov. 15, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for 37 years. He transferred from the Northwest Indiana Conference in 1963 and served at Allendale Methodist Church, St. Petersburg; Winter Garden United Methodist Church, Winter Garden; Lake Placid United Methodist Church, Lake Placid; and Trinity United Methodist Church, Bradenton. He retired in 1978.


Ernesto Vasseur

The Rev. Ernesto Vasseur, retired Florida Conference elder, died Nov.  21, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for 39 years. He became a deacon in 1943 and an elder in 1945. He served at churches in Cuba and New York before transferring to Florida in 1980. He served at Trinity-Redland United Methodist Church in Leisure City. He retired in 1982.


John DeRuyter

The Rev. John DeRuyter, a retired local pastor, died Dec. 17, 2005. He served at Cherry Lake United Methodist Church, Cherry Lake; Greenville United Methodist Church, Greenville; Interbay United Methodist Church, Tampa; First United Methodist Church, Archer; Ellzey United Methodist Church, Ellzey; Bethel United Methodist Church, Lake City; and Tustenuggee United Methodist Church, Fort White. He retired in 1991.


Donald Keyes

The Rev. Donald Keyes, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Dec. 21, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for 34 years. He became a deacon in 1960 and an elder in 1962. He served at Gibsonton Methodist Church, Gibsonton; Hawthorne Methodist Church, Hawthorne; First Methodist Church, Tampa; Okeechobee United Methodist Church, Okeechobee; Trinity United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg; Keystone United Methodist Church, Odessa; Grace United Methodist Church, St. Augustine; and Limona Village Chapel United Methodist Church, Brandon. He retired in 1994.


James Riddle

The Rev. James A. Riddle, retired Florida Conference elder, died Dec. 23, 2005, after serving The United Methodist Church for nearly 31 years. He transferred from the North Georgia Conference in 1964. He served as chaplain in the Pinellas County Jail and Minister of Evangelism at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg. He retired in 1983.


Larry Mott

The Rev. Larry Mott, a lay supply pastor, died Jan. 12, 2006. He had been serving at Faith United Methodist Church in Gainesville since 1998.


Joseph Sweeny

The Rev. Dr. Joseph Sweeny, retired pastor, died Jan. 21, 2006. He had been serving at Christ United Methodist Church, Hastings, and Riverdale United Methodist Church, Riverdale, since 1995.
