Dan M. Gill

The Rev. Dan M. Gill, a retired Florida Conference elder, died March 26, 2005, after serving the United Methodist Church for 36 years. He became a deacon in 1976 and an elder in full connection in 1952. He retired in 1986. He served Ruskin United Methodist Church, Ruskin; Groveland United Methodist Church, Groveland; Boca Raton United Methodist Church, Boca Raton; First United Methodist Church, Plant City; Goss Memorial United Methodist Church, Orlando; Zephyrhills United Methodist Church, Zephyrhills; and First United Methodist Church, Hudson.


Theodore Livingston

The Rev. Theodore Livingston, a part-time local pastor at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Miami, died March 7, 2005.


Grant Hinshaw

The Rev. Grant Hinshaw, a retired Florida Conference elder, died March 8, 2005, after serving the United Methodist Church for 32 years. He became a deacon in 1958 and an elder in full connection in 1960. He retired in 1990. He was superintendent of the Fort Myers District in 1984. He served Union Street United Methodist Church, Dunedin; First United Methodist Church, Naples; First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville; First United Methodist Church, Sarasota; and Christ United Methodist Church, Fort Lauderdale.


Clarence M. Yates

The Rev. Clarence M. Yates, a retired Florida Conference elder, died March 5, 2005, after serving the United Methodist Church for 43 years. He became the youngest licensed pastor in the Methodist Church when he was 12 years old, preaching while in high school in Jackson, Tenn. He transferred from the Kentucky Conference in 1959. He became a deacon in 1944 and an elder in full connection in 1946. He retired in 1985. He served Miami Springs United Methodist Church, Miami; Sebring United Methodist Church, Sebring; Trinity United Methodist Church, Miami; First United Methodist Church, Miami; First United Methodist Church, West Palm Beach; Hollywood Hills United Methodist Church, Hollywood; and Pine Castle United Methodist Church, Orlando.


Elwyn R. Burke

The Rev. Elwyn R. Burke, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Jan. 1, 2005, after serving the United Methodist Church for 41 years. He transferred from the West Virginia Conference in 1967. He became a deacon in 1951 and an elder in full connection in 1952. He retired in 1990. He served LaBelle United Methodist Church; South Tallahassee Parish; Leon-Wakulla Parish; Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Melbourne; First United Methodist Church, Sarasota; Groveland-Mascotte United Methodist Church; Grace United Methodist Church, St. Augustine; Coral Way United Methodist Church, Miami; First United Methodist Church, Pahokee; and Goss Memorial United Methodist Church, Orlando.


Walter Ellis Williamson

The Rev. Walter Ellis Williamson, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Dec. 13, 2004, after serving the United Methodist Church for 33 years. He transferred from the Mississippi Conference in 1957. He became both a deacon and elder in 1944 and a member in full connection in 1947. He was a professor at Florida Southern College in 1965 and taught at Florida Junior College in 1970. He retired in 1977. He served Seminole United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg and Christ United Methodist Church in Fort Lauderdale.



Howard T. Moody

The Rev. Howard T. Moody, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Nov. 9, 2004 after serving the United Methodist Church for two years. He transferred from the South Georgia Conference in 1987. He retired in 1989. He served Calvary United Methodist Church in Tallahassee.


Oliver F. Taylor

The Rev. Oliver F. Taylor, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Nov. 9, 2004, after serving the United Methodist Church for 26 years. He became a deacon in 1963 and an elder in full connection 1967. He retired in 1990. He served Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Melbourne; Wesley United Methodist Church, Miami; Miramar United Methodist Church, Miramar; Olympia Heights United Methodist Church, Miami; and Glynlea United Methodist Church, Jacksonville.


William S. "Bill" Echols

The Rev. William S. "Bill" Echols, a Florida Conference elder, died Oct. 27, 2004, after serving the United Methodist Church for 42 years. He transferred from the North Georgia Conference in 1961. He became a deacon in 1949, an elder in 1951 and a member in full connection in 1952. He was conference secretary for 10 years and a member of the secretarial staff for 20 years. He retired in 1992. He served Coral Way United Methodist Church, Miami; Livingston-Anderson United Methodist Church, Jacksonville; Beach United Methodist Church, Jacksonville Beach; First United Methodist Church, Lake City; Wagg Memorial United Methodist Church, West Palm Beach; Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church, Nokomis; St. Paul United Methodist Church, Jacksonville; and Cason United Methodist Church, Delray Beach.


Ira E. Sherman

The Rev. Ira E. Sherman, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Oct. 1, 2004, after serving the United Methodist Church for 38 years. He transferred from the Wyoming Conference in 1974. He became a deacon in 1938 and an elder in full connection in 1940. He was a missionary to Argentina and Cuba. He retired in 1976. He served Opa Locka United Methodist Church, Opa Locka.


Aleida Cline Northrup

The Rev. Aleida Cline Northrup, a local pastor in the Florida Conference, died July 17, 2004. She once served as the Tampa District youth director. She retired in 1989. She and her husband, the Rev. Lerory Northrup, also a local pastor, who died in 2002, served Welaka United Methodist Church, Welaka; Georgetown United Methodist Church, Georgetown; Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Lakeland; and Eloise United Methodist Church, Winter Haven.
