E. Duane Hulse Jr.

The Rev. Dr. E. Duane Hulse Jr., a retired Florida Conference elder, died Jan. 10, after serving the United Methodist Church for 41 years.

He became a deacon in 1950 and an elder in 1953. He transferred from the Northern Indiana Conference and retired in 1987.

Hulse served churches in Miami Lakes, Tampa and Clearwater.


John E. Winters

The Rev. John E. Winters, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Jan. 24, 2004, after serving the United Methodist Church for 45 years.

He was licensed in the Illinois Conference in 1958 and became an elder in 1959. He retired in 1995.

Winters served churches in Sarasota, Tampa, Jacksonville, Winter Haven, Hollywood and Palm Beach Gardens.


George E. Sanford

The Rev. George E. Sanford, a retired pastor from the Tennessee Annual Conference, died Feb. 14.

He was serving St. John's United Methodist Church in Worthington Springs.


 Dennis R. DeLacure

The Rev. Dennis R. DeLacure, a former chaplain at Florida Southern College, died March 2 after serving the United Methodist Church for 37 years.

He was a chaplain at Florida Southern College in 1962 and Orlando District superintendent in 1988. He became a deacon in 1958 and an elder in 1960. He retired in 1994.

DeLacure served churches in Lake Alfred, Lake City, Tampa, Maitland and Gainesville.


Rogers P. Fair

The Rev. Dr. Rogers P. Fair, a retired chaplain of Bethune-Cookman College, died March 29 after serving the United Methodist Church for 49 years.

He became a deacon in 1935 and an elder in 1937. He transferred from the South Carolina Conference in 1946 and retired in 1986.

Fair was chaplain at Bethune Cookman-College for 47 years and also served churches in Daytona Beach and West Palm Beach.


Fred D. Rumsey

The Rev. Fred D. Rumsey, a retired Florida Conference elder, died April 28 after serving the United Methodist Church for seven years.

He became a deacon in 1957 and an elder in 1960.

He received an honorable location in 1961, voluntarily surrendering his credentials, and was readmitted in 1990.

Rumsey served churches in Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville.


 Franz Engle

Franz Engle, a diaconal minister, died May 1.

He was the director of music and organist at First United Methodist Church, Sarasota.


Robert D. Sawyer

The Rev. Robert D. Sawyer, a retired Florida Conference elder, died May 3 after serving the United Methodist Church for 22 years.

He became a deacon in 1974, an elder in 1976 and retired in 1996.

Sawyer served churches in Ocklawaha, Chiefland, Miami, Orlando, Sarasota, Lakeland and Fort Myers Beach.


David H. Talley

The Rev. David H. Talley, a retired Florida Conference elder, died April 29 after serving the United Methodist Church for 29 years.

He became a deacon in 1966, an elder in 1968 and retired in 1995.

Talley served churches in Tampa, Jacksonville and Lutz.


John P. Davenport

The Rev. John P. Davenport, a former state prison chaplain, died May 16 after serving the United Methodist Church for 40 years.

He became a deacon in 1947, an elder in 1949 and retired in 1985.

Davenport served churches in Miami, Monticello, Tallahassee, Opa-Locka, Perry, Tampa and Orlando.


George W. Hamilton

George W. Hamilton, a local pastor, died June 28.

Hamilton served two churches in Reddick.
