William G. Cofield

The Rev. William G. Cofield, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Oct. 18, 2003, after serving the United Methodist Church for 34 years.

He was a chaplain at the Florida State Penitentiary in 1953 and retired in 1985. He became a deacon in 1952, a full-connected member in 1953 and an elder in 1953.
 
Cofield  served churches in Lake Butler, Jacksonville, Lake Placid, Plant City, Dunnellon, Orlando and Lakeland.

George Dettman

The Rev. George E. Dettman, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Aug. 6, 2003, after serving the United Methodist Church for 40 years.
 
He was a graduate of Candler School of Theology and became a deacon in 1959 and a full-connected elder in 1963. He retired in 2000.
 
Dettman served churches in Dunedin, Homestead, Lady Lake, Mascotte, Carrabelle, Bradenton, Crystal River, Winter Haven, Jacksonville, Inverness, Leigh Acres, Boynton Beach, Lake City and Fort Myers.
 
Lee D. Rustin

The Rev. Lee D. Rustin, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Dec. 29, 2003, after serving the Methodist Church for 41 years.
 
He became a full-connected member in 1938, a deacon in 1939 and an elder in 1941. He transferred from the Arizona Conference in 1944.
 
Rustin served churches in Delray Beach, Belle Glade, Winter Garden, Mount Dora, Jacksonville Beach, St. Augustine, Jacksonville, Riviera, Hialeah and Quincy.

Walter R. Matthews

The Rev. Walter R. Matthews died Dec. 31, 2003, after serving the United Methodist Church for 18 years.

He became a deacon in 1971 and was an associate member of the Florida Conference. He retired in 1991.

He served churches in Hanson-Rocky Springs, Jennings, Key West, Lake City and Gainesville.
