With a degree in business and a career spent working in a corporate environment, Susann Price says she never considered herself a “real” teacher, much less thought she’d be recognized as one.
So when she learned she had received the Alice W. Lockmiller Christian education award for outstanding teacher of the year, she was more than a little surprised.
“My reaction … was surprise, disbelief, gratitude, excitement and total unworthiness,” she said. “I had a strong desire to read the other nominations for the award because I was certain there had been a stronger candidate.”
Price received the recognition, which comes with a $500 check, last year for her work as director of the Son Kissed Preschool at St. Paul UMC, Largo, where she’s also a member. A separate $1,000 award for outstanding program of the year went to the youth and children’s ministry at St. Paul UMC, Jacksonville.
Nominations are now being accepted for this year’s teacher and program of the year awards. The deadline is May 15.
