The Florida Conference Disaster Response Ministry strives to effectuate an applicable, prompt, and comprehensive response to those individuals suffering from the effects of disaster. The establishment of necessary programs and supplies long before a disaster strikes is crucial for an effective response strategy. Therefore, this program requires on-going actions of readiness and planning by the disaster response team and United Methodist churches and districts conference wide. By preparing early and working together, we can build a connectional system supporting efforts to alleviate human suffering and address the human needs specific to a disaster stricken area. In addition, we become servants extending God’s love to hurting people through tangible ways that meet urgent needs during the stressful time of disaster recovery.
Continual Ministry Goals:
to provide immediate relief to persons in
our communities suffering from natural, ecological, or civil disasters
to assist and train district and local
church coordinators to address emerging and ongoing issues related to
disaster relief
to develop a conference wide
communications network (including amateur radio with packet radio
communications) including resources to move into an affected area and
establish communications to the areas unaffected by the disaster
to expand our supply depot structure to include depots in every district working with our Conference Depot in High Springs to secure and store large quantities of disaster supplies that can be effectively transported to areas of need
to improve our capacity to provide
immediate care to stricken communities, investigating feeding units and
other avenues to help our churches in these areas
to steadily inform districts, churches, and individuals of the opportunities to serve through disaster response by giving of time, resources needed, finances, or on site volunteer help
Scriptural Mandate:
"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40
