United Methodist agency set to launch TV campaign
The United Methodist Church will be hitting the airwaves nationwide this September as United Methodist Communications launches the denomination's most ambitious attempt to use television and other media to evangelize the masses. The $20 million "Igniting Ministry" campaign was approved by the 2000 General Conference and is designed to increase awareness of the United Methodist Church and its ministries.

Middle East trips canceled
Forty-two youth and young adults had planned to start their new year in the Holy Land. Instead they'll celebrate 2001 at home after their Dec. 27-Jan. 4 pilgrimage was canceled over concerns about violence in the region. Another pilgrimage scheduled for later in the month was also canceled.

| Ministry meets needs for Christmas |
While teddy bears, baby dolls, scooters, bikes and remote-control cars topped the list of things children in Palm Beach County wanted for Christmas, new clothes, shoes and personal hygiene items were added to that list for more than 1,000 children of low-income families here. For more than 17 years, Christians Reaching Out to Society (CROS) has distributed toys and needed items to children at Christmas.

Pastors suspended from duties
The Rev. Gilbert W. Fonger, senior pastor of University Carillon United Methodist Church in Oviedo, and the Rev. Glenn G. Gutek, the church's associate pastor, were suspended from pastoral duties Dec. 1 by the late Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson. The decision was approved by the executive committee of the Florida Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.
