Director of Christian Education

 Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 2246 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida is seeking a full time Director of Christian Education. The Director of Christian Education (DCE) will plan coordinate and implement Christian Education programs at LSUMC with emphasis on Children’s Ministry. The DCE will recruit, train and support teachers and volunteers for Sunday School and other Christian Educational Ministries for both children and adults. Hours: Full time Salaried position. Minimum 40 hours per week.
            Salary Range:  $25,000 - $30,000 salary range. Salary base on experience.
            Benefits:  $600.00 Yearly Cell Phone Allowance
                             $250.00 Yearly Continuing Education Allowance
                             $4200.00 Supplemental Compensation (12 monthly payments of $350.00)
                             Optional Retirement after 1 year of employment
   Qualifications:
·         Strong commitment to Jesus Christ.
·         Enthusiastic, energetic and creative.
·         Genuine concern for all people
·         Capacity to relate with all people in a sensitive, respectful and confidential manner.
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Education with Christian Education a plus
·         Minimum of two years related experience
·         United Methodist background preferred but not essential
·         Written recommendation of applicant’s pastor
·         Pass background check
·         Competent in use of computer and related software
 
General Responsibilities:
·         Contact visiting families giving information about children and adult programs and activities
·         Contact families, with children, who have not been attending
·         Train and coordinate Acolytes for worship services
·         Coordinate and lead Confirmation classes
·         Establish and Coordinate New Members class.
·         Recruit, train and encourage teachers and volunteers in Christian Education Ministries.
·         Meet regularly as needed with teachers and volunteers in Christian Education Ministries.
·         Work with SPRC in hiring of Nursery workers.
·         Take Continuing Education classes and/or training as needed and/or recommended by pastor/SPRC
·         Maintain Certification in CPR and first aid; provide training for teachers and volunteers.
·         Keep congregation informed of the church’s educational ministries by weekly bulletin, email notification, newsletter and/or Facebook
·         Keep regular office hours.
 
Children’s Programming:
·         Children’s programming and staffing will include:
o   Nursery – newborn and children less than 2 years of age
o   Toddlers – age 2 to 3
o   Children’s Sunday School and KIDZ Church – grade K4 thru 2nd grade
o   Children’s Sunday School and KIDZ Church – 3rd grade thru 5th grade  
·         Select Bible-based curriculum for all classes/programs; nursery, toddlers, Sunday School, KIDZ church and Wednesday night programs. 
·         Identify and develop new programs and classes for children as needed
·         Supervise, train and schedule paid nursery staff
·         Recruit, train and encourage teachers and volunteers for Sunday school, KIDZ church and other children’s programs.
·         Ensure that all classes/programs have a teacher/volunteer; stepping in and teaching/volunteering when required
·         Ensure the correct child/adult radio as directed by district guidelines.
·         Maintain list of nursery, toddler, Sunday School, KIDZ Church teachers and volunteers
·         Secure background check for all nursery workers, teachers and volunteers before they start working with infants, toddlers, and children.
·         Support, encourage and equip parents for their role in developing their children’s faith
·         Demonstrate a positive and friendly attitude with children and parents who are in your care
·         Maintain a secure environment for nursery and children rooms
·         Establish a relationship with community school, Bayview Elementary, to promote LSUMC
·         Organize and coordinate Children’s programs as an outreach to the community
o   Trunk or Treat
o   Summer program such as Sports Camp or Vacation Bible School
o   Other outreach that helps reach the community
·         Manage Sunday school supplies, curriculum and coordinate with church administration team
·         Collect and report attendance for all nursery and children’s programs each week.
·         Organize children activities for any special church activity that may be assigned by the Senior Pastor
 
Adult Education:
·         Provide leadership in the development and execution of adult education programs
·         Recruit, train and encourage teachers and volunteers
·         Work with current Sunday School and Small Group leaders in the planning, directing and evaluating of adult education programs, assessing needs, identifying gaps and setting priorities for the congregation’s education/study ministries.
·         Review literature and other resources for education/study and work to make these resources available through the church library.
 
Administrative:
·         Collect and report attendance for all nursery and children’s programs each week.
·         Submit budget to administration team
·         Attend Staff Meetings when scheduled
·         Attend monthly Administration meeting
·         Provide reports requested by Pastor
·         Submit article for monthly newsletter
