Assistant Pastor


Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church in Tampa, FL is seeking an Assistant Pastor to work alongside the Senior Pastor, providing worship, stewardship vision, and congregational care to LMUMC.  We are seeking a quality person who can lead our contemporary service in worship.  This person must have a strong Wesleyan theology background and have an MA in Divinity or an equivalency in experience/education.

Title:  Assistant/Associate Pastor

The Assistant/Associate Pastor works alongside the Senior Pastor to provide Worship, congregational care, and teaching to the LMUMC congregation.   Primary responsibility for Worship will be leading the Contemporary Service (Genesis).  S/he will set the vision and lead the church in the discipline of stewardship.  He/she will provide leadership to the entire staff and supervise the Contemporary Worship Leader. This position reports to the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee. This is a full-time salaried position.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with and supports Senior Pastor as a team player in all aspects of the Pastor’s role
    • Work with Senior Pastor to cast and implement a vision of Spiritual growth and development keeping with the Senior Pastor’s vision, sermons and direction.
    • Leadership development of staff and Lay Leadership for the Church
      • Provide guidance and coaching to staff
      • Identify, mentor, and develop future Lay Leaders
      • Be a role model as a leader           
    • Share in conducting wedding and funeral services
  • Worship
    • Participate with the worship team in planning worship opportunities and experiences connecting the church to God’s Word
    • Preaching of Sermons that reach the congregation and creates disciples of Christ
    • Delivery of the Sacraments to the Church
  • Lead and provide a vision for Stewardship
    • Gain support from congregation for generously giving
    • Build relationships through personal visits specifically focused on gaining commitment for giving
  • Congregational Care
    • Participate in out of office visits (home and hospital) and in-office counseling to those in need
  • Teaching
    • Partner with Senior Pastor on New Member classes
    • Delivery of agreed upon Church wide curriculum as needed

  • Masters Degree of Divinity or equivalent in experience/education
  • Wesleyan Theology background
