In Search of Security

A Dialogue on Fear and Security

  "I'm scared… Where do I find security?"

Fear is something people live with every day. Fear can be a good thing that keeps people out of dangerous or threatening situations. Fear can also paralyze, causing people to give up important things like hope and freedom.

In the post 9/11 world, fear has become much more a way of life. This is especially true for people in the United States, who have seen a sense of national security challenged by one day's events. The daily news now features a color chart to tell people how afraid they ought to be of potential terrorist attacks. People are encouraged to keep their eyes open on airplanes and in public places for potential threats and the people who might threaten them.

The United Methodist Council of Bishops is inviting all United Methodists to participate in conversations about the issue of security at events coordinated by each annual conference.
