CUBA
Bishop Pereira, from Cuba, reported destruction to homes (about 35,000 were damaged or destroyed), agricultural fields, and electrical and telephone systems, and said that funds for emergency response are the "priority need" at this point. UMCOR Assistant General Secretary for US Disaster Response the Rev. Tom Hazelwood agrees. "There are many ways you can help, but the most important right now is by giving to UMCOR Hurricane 2012 Advance #3021787, which will cover needs in the affected U.S. and Caribbean regions," he said.  You can also text the word RESPONSE to 80888 to give an immediate $10 donation.

Methodists United in Prayer of The Florida Conference is also coordinating the remittance of funds to the Methodist Church in Cuba. Click here for pictures of the damage caused to sanctuaries and parsonages in the Eastern part of Cuba.

HAITI
The storm brought several days of rains, causing rivers to overrun their banks across much of southern Haiti. Reports say as much as 70 percent of crops were destroyed in some areas. The official death toll was 54 as of Wednesday, with 21 people still unaccounted for. According to Rev. Gesner Paul, President of the Methodist Church in Haiti, several roofs of schools and churches were damaged and lots of members have been affected. "It is  hard to see the loss of crops and animals, and bridges washed away," he said on a recent email.
