Tour buses and guides will be in the driveway at the rear of the Performing Arts Center. Guided tours are scheduled to last one-half hour. Participants may continue a walking tour or return to the Performing Arts Center via bus. CELEBRATE JESUS EVENT: Servant evangelism opportunity in town and beach on Friday afternoon, June 4. On Saturday, June 5, there will be family fun activities throughout the day at the Daytona Beach Band Shell, including beach activities and bands for children and youth. Saturday evening’s Family Festival at the Band Shell for delegates and families includes music, food, fun and fellowship. The Miami Youth Praise Band will be there to close with praise and worship. FIRST AID: Located in the west side lobby of the Performing Arts Center, near Guest Services. Emergency phones are located throughout the campus and are identified on the campus map. Simply dial 911 from any of these phones in the event of an emergency. GUEST SERVICES: The Guest Services desk is located in the main lobby of the Performing Arts Center. Services offered to delegates and guests include: telephone message center, general information about the annual conference, pocket agendas, late registration on Friday and Saturday, 2004 Journal order forms and replacement name badges for delegates. For security purposes, we request that all guests attending the annual conference event stop at the Guest Services desk to register and to get a name badge printed. HEARING-IMPAIRED: Signing for the hearing impaired will be provided for all sessions of Annual Conference. Seating for hearing impaired is on the right side facing the stage. A limited number of wireless devices will be available at Guest Services. These will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. To use the services of an interpreter, you may pick up a receiver and earpiece at the Interpreters’ Table on the east side of the Performing Arts Center. JOURNAL ORDER FORMS (2004): Order forms for the 2004 Florida Annual Conference Journal will be in the Annual Conference Packet received at registration. Completed order forms can be placed in the designated box at Guest Services or left with an attendant at the Guest Services Desk (main lobby). Extra order blanks are also available at the Guest Services Desk or the Florida United Methodist Conference Website (http://www.flumc.org). LAITY SESSION: Will be held in the Performing Arts Center Auditorium at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 3. LODGING: Daytona Beach area hotels have set aside a specified number of rooms at special rates for the Florida United Methodist Conference Event. Reservations will be taken up to May 1, 2004 or until the room block is filled, whichever occurs first. After May 1, 2004, the block rate may not be available. A list of Daytona Beach area hotels can be found on pages 13-14 of the Conference Workbook. LOGO: The 2004 Florida Annual Conference Event logo is a graphic representation of our theme "A Light to the Nations" and draws its imagery from the Servant Songs found in the book of Isaiah. At its heart, it celebrates who we are as United Methodists, a church through which the Holy Spirit and Risen Christ bring justice and light to the nations. The corona at the top of the globe represents the glory to which we aspire, the crown Jesus will wear when the servant is "exalted and lifted up" and salvation reaches to the ends of the earth. The globe is turned so that Florida and Angola are both visible, highlighting our missional partnership and celebrating the presence of Eastern Angolan Bishop José Quipungo at this year's event. LOST AND FOUND: Located at Guest Services. MEAL SERVICE: Bethune-Cookman College meal tickets are available for advance purchase by completing the registration form that was mailed with the campus housing information. Meal tickets are $55 and must be purchased by May 15. The first meal served will be dinner on Wednesday evening and the last meal served will be Sunday breakfast. Other campus meal options include the following: ▪ Single lunch tickets may be purchased on Wednesday and Thursday at the Bethune-Cookman College housing check-in table located on the west side of the Performing Arts Center. ▪ The snack bar located in the Wendell Holmes Building will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ▪ A coffee bar serving espresso, cappuccino and snacks will be located in the Performing Arts Center. Food kiosks will be located throughout the Performing Arts Center lobby and campus. Special Meals: Individual groups meeting during annual conference are responsible for the sale of tickets for their own events. A list of the special meal gatherings by group name and contact person is listed in the Workbook and posted on the web-site. MESSAGE CENTER: A Message Center is located at the Guest Services Desk in the main lobby of the Performing Arts Center for delegates to receive messages during the annual conference. Telephones at the Message Center are answered during daytime hours. Messages received are posted on the Message Board. All delegates and guests should check the message board regularly. Only EMERGENCY messages will be announced from the stage. The telephone numbers for the Message Center are: (386) 481-2465 and (386) 481-2466. The telephones are for incoming calls only and cannot be used for delegates to return calls. There are pay phone located on the east and west side of the Performing Arts Center and throughout the campus. MINISTRY EXPO: The Ministry Expo will be held throughout the Performing Arts Center and the Wendell Holmes Building located east of the Performing Arts Center. A listing of Exhibitors and locations will be posted at Guest Services and in the Workbook Supplement. The Expo strives to provide a gathering place for delegates and visitors to become better acquainted with the mission and ministries of the United Methodist connectional church. The Expo also includes representatives from organizations that provide church related technology, products and services. NAME BADGES: Delegates who need a name badge made due to a last minute replacement or an incorrect spelling, etc., may do so at the Guest Services desk. Visitors may also get a name badge made at the Guest Services desk. PARKING: Parking is free and there are parking areas located throughout the campus (refer to campus map on page 15). Shuttle vans will run from the parking areas to the Performing Arts Center throughout the week. Parking signs and parking attendants will also be visible throughout the campus to help direct you. Handicapped parking is to the east of the Performing Arts Center. There will be easy access, short-term parking for registration and campus housing check-in on Wednesday ONLY in the lot to the east of the Performing Arts Center. As mentioned above, this lot will be Handicapped Parking the remainder of the week (Thursday through Sunday). PICTORIAL DIRECTORY: Pictorial Directories created during 2003 Annual Conference may be picked up at the Lifetouch booth in the Wendell Holmes Building. Photographers from Lifetouch will be taking photos of the events of this year's annual conference and will create a "Celebration" pictorial directory for 2004 of events and groups. Individual studio photos will not be taken this year. Be sure to stop by the Lifetouch Booth for your free copy of the current Pictorial Directory and to talk about Lifetouch services that are available for your church. PLENARY SESSIONS: All plenary sessions will be held in the Performing Arts Center on the corner of International Speedway Drive and Lincoln Street on the campus of Bethune Cookman College. PRAYER GARDEN: Located upstairs in the Executive Wing of the Performing Arts Center. This quiet space of the Prayer Garden has been created for a place of rest, reflection, discernment and prayer during the annual conference. Drawing on the richness of the scriptures and of Christian traditions around the world and throughout the centuries, this space invites us to encounter the living God. This space contains unique opportunities to worship through the various senses. While you will find brief instructions for ways to participate, feel free to explore the possibilities of your own using these worship resources. The sacrament of Holy Communion reminds us of God’s saving presence throughout history and particularly in the person of Jesus Christ. A Service of Holy Communion will be held each morning at 7:45 a.m. in the Prayer Garden. The Prayer Garden is sponsored by the Spiritual Formation Team of the Florida Conference. The space is created by the Sacred Spaces Team of St. Luke’s, Orlando and the Reverend Jan Richardson. PRINTED MATERIALS: Printed materials relative to matters to come before the Annual conference for action must be in the hands of the delegates 24 hours in advance of consideration. Such material for delegates may be distributed on both sides at the rear of the Performing Arts Center, and removed at the close of the same session. Only those materials that the delegates will use pertaining to the Annual conference may be distributed. RECOGNITION AND AWARDS CELEBRATION: The Florida Annual Conference Recognition and Awards Celebration dinner is Friday, June 4, 5:00 p.m., in the Moore Gymnasium. A reservation form can be found in the front of the Workbook. Advance reservations are required. Tickets are $10.00 per person. REGISTRATION: Registration for all clergy and lay delegates will be in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center beginning Wednesday, June 2, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, June 3, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Late registration will be at the Guest Services Desk in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center. To avoid long lines, we strongly encourage you to register on Wednesday afternoon if you are arriving in Daytona Beach on Wednesday. We anticipate Thursday morning and Thursday noon time to be the heaviest registration time. RESTAURANTS: A list of area restaurants and their locations will be in the Annual Conference Packet received at registration. SIGNING: Signing for the hearing impaired will be provided for all sessions of annual conference. Seating for hearing impaired is on the right side facing the stage. SPEAKERS: Guest preacher for this year’s annual conference is Angolan Bishop José Quipungo. He will speak on Thursday and Friday evening. TELEPHONES: Pay telephones are located in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center and throughout the campus. TRANSPORTATION: A system of shuttle buses and vans are available to transport guests from parking areas to the Performing Arts Center; from the Performing Arts Center to the cafeteria; and from dormitories to the cafeteria and to the Performing Arts Center. VIDEO AND AUDIO TAPED SESSIONS: All sessions of the Annual conference are video and audio taped, including worship services, debates and discussions. Order blanks can be picked up in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center near Guest Services. VISITORS: We request that all visitors register at the Guest Services Desk in the main lobby of the Performing Arts Center where you will be given a visitors name badge. WHEEL CHAIR FACILITIES: The Bethune-Cookman College campus is equipped for persons who are physically challenged. A wheel chair ramp is available on the east side of the Performing Arts Center. Elevators are located throughout the Performing Arts Center and other campus buildings. WORSHIP BOOKLET AND SERVICES: This year our worship bulletins will come to you again in the form of a booklet that will be included in the packet that you receive when you register at annual conference. This booklet will be three hole punched and ready for you to insert into your three-ring binder. Please remember to bring this Worship Booklet with you to all the worship services.
